| The annual Age and Disabilities Odyssey, which had been planned for August 2010, has been postponed until June 2011. The conference, sponsored by DHS and the Minnesota Board on Aging. is aimed at professionals who administer and operate programs to help seniors and people with disabilities. | DHS is currently implementing a number of legislatively mandated initiatives that will impact services and programs for older adults. The initiatives are aimed at strengthening the long-term sustainability of programs, advancing reforms and improving consistency of the programs across Minnesota. A list of these initiatives is online. |
| Electronic mailing lists are available for Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) providers. The DHS Web site’s MHCP mailing list page has instructions for providers to sign up to receive notification of new information postings. The DHS subscriptions page also lists other department e-mail mailing lists. |
| Prospective assisted living residents can learn about long-term care service options before they make the final decision to move, thanks to a DHS-led effort. The new program calls for providers of assisted living services to inform prospective residents about transitional consultation services before committing to a lease or contract with the prospective resident. | The Telephone Equipment Distribution (TED) Program provides telephone equipment to people who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, or have a speech or mobility impairment and need adaptive equipment in order to use the phone. More information about the TED program is available online. |
