General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC) is a state-funded program for low-income adults, ages 21-64, who have no dependent children and who do not qualify for federally funded health care programs.
Funding for the program will end April 1, 2010. When GAMC funding ends, enrollees will automatically move to MinnesotaCare. Read more about upcoming changes to GAMC.
People may still apply for GAMC now. The program provides comprehensive coverage to adults with income at or below 75 percent of the federal poverty guidelines who have less than $1,000 in assets. Most enrollees get services through a health plan. Many GAMC enrollees also receive General Assistance.
GAMC also has a “hospitalization only” coverage plan. This pays for a single hospital stay for adults with income at or below 175 percent of poverty and assets of $10,000 for a family of one or $20,000 for a family of two or more.
