The Minnesota Department of Human Services touches the lives of one in four Minnesotans with a variety of services intended to help people live as independently as possible. DHS is the state's largest agency, with an annual budget of nearly $11 billion and approximately 7,200 employees located throughout Minnesota.

Age and Disabilities Odyssey postponed until June 2011
The annual Age and Disabilities Odyssey, which had been planned for August 2010, has been postponed until June 2011. The conference, sponsored by DHS and the Minnesota Board on Aging. is aimed at professionals who administer and operate programs to help seniors and people with disabilities. More information about the conference postponement is online.

Online database provides customized county performance reports
County performance in context is an interactive database that allows citizens to compare Minnesota counties on 11 measures related to the well-being of children and families, including child protection, child support and various economic indicators. Users can also obtain county profiles on these measures. This public information has been available in other formats but is organized this way to give citizens more comprehensive views of state and county program outcomes.

Web page summarizes human services stimulus funding
The stimulus funding page on the DHS Web site summarizes the more than $2 billion expected to be provided for Minnesota human services programs under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The majority of the funding will provide for increased federal matching funds for Minnesota’s Medicaid program. Other funding will increase support for food, economic assistance and children’s programs.

2008 County Human Service Cost Report is available online
The annual Minnesota County Human Service Cost Report for Calendar Year 2008 is available on DHS’ public Web site. The report, compiled by the Financial Operations Division, contains statewide and county-specific costs and revenue shares for economic support, health and social service programs.

Self-sufficiency and health care statistics report is online
The Family Self-Sufficiency and Health Care Program Statistics available through December 2009 report is available online. The report, compiled by the Reports and Forecasts Division, includes caseload numbers and expenditures for cash, emergency and food assistance programs and health care programs.
