A recently launched federal website, www.healthcare.gov, provides consumers with information about private and public health coverage options, including Minnesota Health Care Programs, tailored specifically for their needs in a single, easy-to-use tool. In addition, the website will be a one-stop-shop for information about the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and other health care resources. The website will connect consumers to quality rankings for local health care providers as well as preventive services.
Use of heroin and other opiates continued a significant upward trend in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area in 2009, according to the latest Drug Trends Report for 2009 (PDF) released by DHS. The report is prepared twice annually as part of an epidemiological drug abuse-monitoring network comprised of drug abuse researchers in 20 U.S. cities convened by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. More information is available in a news release about the report.
Thousands of General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC) enrollees are now getting care through one of four new coordinated care delivery systems (CCDSs). All enrollees received information about their choices in mid-May. Enrollees can choose a CCDS or opt out and get care from local providers who will see them. There is no deadline for selecting a CCDS. More information is at www.dhs.state.mn.us/gamc.
A new online service on the DHS website helps parents estimate their parental fee. Minnesota law says all parents with an adjusted gross income over 100 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines have to pay an annual fee if their child has been approved for Medical Assistance (MA) under TEFRA, Community Alternative Care (CAC), Community Alternatives for Disabled Individuals (CADI), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Developmental Disabilities (DD) waivers or an out-of-home placement. The fee is only an estimate and parents will still need to complete a form and provide tax information. The Parental Fee Estimator is available online.
County performance in context is an interactive database that allows citizens to compare Minnesota counties on 11 measures related to the well-being of children and families, including child protection, child support and various economic indicators. Users can also obtain county profiles on these measures. This public information has been available in other formats but is organized this way to give citizens more comprehensive views of state and county program outcomes.
