MHCP Professional Certification & Enrollment Requirements

General Professional Certification & Enrollment Requirements:

Enrollment Requirements

Licensed Psychologist (LP)

  • • Licensed under MS 148.88 -148.98
  • • Review MS 148.88 – 148.98 for all competency documentation required by the MN Board of Psychology
  • Copy of current license

    Neuropsychology
    (LP Sub-specialty)

    • Review MS 9505.0372, Subp.2, for all MN licensure requirements

    Copy of clinical Neuropsychology

    Diplomate status from either:

  • • American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP)
  • • American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology (ABCN)
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)

  • • Licensure by examination; licensed independent social worker. Refer to MS 148E.055, 148E.010, 148E.100 and 148E. 125
  • Copy of current license

    Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)

  • • Licensed under MS 148b.5301
  • • 4,000 hours post-master’s supervised experience in the delivery of clinical services in the treatment of mental disorders or emotional disturbance
  • Copy of current license

    Psychiatrist

  • • Licensed physician under MS 147
  • • Certified by American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, or
  • • A Dr. of Osteopathy licensed under the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry eligible for certification by psychiatric board
  • • Copy of current diploma
  • • Copy of current certification
  • • Copy of current license
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

  • • Licensed under MS 148B.29-148B.39
  • • Two years post-master’s supervised* delivery of psychiatric or mental illness service
  • Copy of current license

    Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP)

  • • Registered nurse licensed by the Minnesota Board of Nursing under MS 148.171 to 148.285
  • • Certified nurse practitioner by national nursing organization for adult or family psychiatric or mental health nursing
  • • Copy of current license
  • • Copy of current certification
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist

  • • Registered nurse licensed by the Minnesota Board of Nursing under MS 148.171 to 148.285
  • • Certified as a clinical nurse specialist in psychiatric or mental health nursing
  • • Copy of current license
  • • Copy of current certification
  • Certified Mental Health Rehabilitative Professional

    Note:
    May provide mental health services and supervision only within an ARMHS agency

  • • Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker, see MS 256B.0623 for qualifications
  • • Current valid national certification as rehab counselor or psychosocial practitioner
  • • Employed or contracted with certified ARMHS agency
  • • Master’s degree from accredited college or university in behavior science or related field
  • • 4000 hours supervised* post-master’s clinical treatment service delivery experience
  • • Copy of master’s degree
  • • Copy of current certification
  • Assurance Statement (DHS-6095) (PDF)
  • * Supervision always means clinical supervision by mental health professional

    Out of State Application Requirements

    All out of state applicants must submit a current license from the state board of their current state of practice and meet the Minnesota Board’s enrollment criteria

    Completing an internship or residency in psychiatry

    A physician board certified in psychiatry or eligible for certification
