DHS, the Minnesota Department of Health and two nursing facility provider organizations, Care Providers of Minnesota and Aging Services of Minnesota joined in 2008 to develop consensus among themselves and other critical stakeholders on the vision for the future role of Minnesota care centers in the continuum of care.
The care center community, which includes nursing facilities, nursing homes, board and care and veterans homes, has been changing over the past several years and faces further dramatic changes over the next couple of decades. These changes are being driven by the changing demographics of an aging society and workforce in many regions across the state; changes in consumer needs, expectations and demands; changes in the larger health care and long-term care systems; and competing priorities for limited resources.
In anticipation of these changes, the Developing a Vision for Care Centers of the Future Project will address such questions as:
• What are the characteristics of the individuals and families care centers will serve?
• What does that imply for architectural and program design?
• Where should care centers be located and how many care centers and beds will be needed?
If you would like to participate in the workgroups or would like more information, please e-mail your contact information to DHS.FutureCareCenters@state.mn.us and we will add you to our participant list.
