MHCP Enrolled Providers – E3 2009 E-Transactions Requirements
2007 state law mandated that the Minnesota Administrative Uniformity Committee (AUC) work collaboratively with Minnesota’s payers and providers to create uniform, electronic health care billing standards (Minnesota’s E3 initiative). The resulting Companion Guides give providers one set of electronic billing standards to use in Minnesota. MHCP and all other Minnesota providers are now required to send the following transactions in a standard, electronic format:

• Eligibility Requests (270)
• Health Care Claims (837s) and NCPDP
All MHCP-enrolled providers must use MN–ITS Interactive or Batch to submit claims and retrieve their RAs. (Pharmacy claims can be submitted via POS software.) Minnesota payers are required to send providers the Eligibility Response (271) and the Remittance Advice (835) transactions electronically. Refer to Billing Resources for more information.

Minnesota’s companion guides (270, 837 and 835) have been updated with 5010 specifications. X12/NCPDP submitters should use these Guides to program your software to meet existing (5010) standards.
