Training for Waiver and Alternative Care (AC) Service Providers—Waiver Billing Labs

MHCP offers free training, on a quarterly basis for Home and Community Based Waiver Service (HCBS) and Alternative Care (AC) Programs service providers. The trainings are provided in a computer lab environment and participants may attend either in person/live or through a webinar (online) session.

Learning Objectives

MHCP will educate providers on the following:

  • • How to navigate the MHCP Provider website to understand:
  • • MHCP Basic Provider requirements
  • • MHCP Programs and Services
  • • Connection with Managed Care Organizations (MCO)
  • • Additional service specific provider requirements and processes
  • • Provider tools and resources
  • • Billing for waiver and AC services
  • • Coordination of benefits with other payers (TPL/other insurance, Medicare)
  • • Payment related audits
  • • How to read a remittance advice
  • • How to use MN–ITS including:
  • • Administration
  • • Mailbox
  • • Eligibility Requests (270/271)
  • • Submit an 837P Professional claim
  • • Request Claim Status (276/277)

    Before you come to the billing lab:

  • • Use your MN–ITS Registration Letter to register for MN–ITS
  • • Contact the MHCP Provider Call Center if you need a copy of your Letter
  • • Have a MN–ITS Username and password to access your MN–ITS account

    Parking is available - DHS will email your parking information and a parking pass about three days before the lab training begins. DHS offers scheduled shuttle services between the parking location and the building where training labs occur. *Note: You must use your parking pass. DHS is not responsible for vehicles, including those parked in the wrong location or parked without a visible parking pass.


    Webinar attendees will:

  • • Connect to the webinar from their own computers (no computer special hardware or software required)
  • • Communicate with the presenters and others in the audience using the chat feature (available as part of the webinar sessions)
