Healthy Minnesota Contribution Program

The Healthy Minnesota Contribution Program began July 1, 2012. It helps certain adults without children pay private health insurance premiums.

How do I qualify?

You must:

  • • Live in Minnesota.
  • • Be a U.S. citizen or a qualifying noncitizen.
  • • Be age 21 or older
  • • Not have children under age 21 living with you or be pregnant.
  • • Meet the income and asset limits.
  • You cannot get help from the program if:

  • • You have or have had insurance in the last four months.
  • • Your current employer offers health insurance and pays half or more of the monthly cost.
  • • Your employer offered health insurance, paid half or more of the monthly cost and stopped the insurance within the last 18 months.
  • What is the income limit?

    Your monthly gross income must be between:

  • • $1,862 - $2,328; or
  • • $2,522 - $3,153 if you are married and living with your spouse.
  • What is the asset limit?

    The asset limit is $10,000, or $20,000 if you are married and living with your spouse. Usually the home you live in and a car do not count toward the asset limit.

    What happens when I am approved for the program?

    If you qualify, you will get a notice telling you:

  • • Your Healthy MN account number.
  • • The amount the program will pay towards the cost of private health insurance premiums.
  • • The steps you must take to get coverage.
