How do I know the amount of my MinnesotaCare premium?
This premium chart (PDF) can help you estimate your premium amount. The exact amount is calculated based on proof of income and other information you provide with your application. After your coverage is approved, you will get a bill in the mail. Contact your worker if you do not receive a bill or if you lost it.

Will my coverage start before I pay my premium?
If you are required to pay a premium, your coverage will not start until your premium is paid. Usually coverage starts the first day of the month after you pay your premium.

How do I pay my premium?
You can pay in several different ways.

• Online
You can pay online by checking account withdrawal or credit card .
Online payments made by 5 p.m. on a business day are credited that day. Online payments made after 5 p.m. on a business day, on weekends or holidays are credited the next business day.

• By mail
Be sure to allow enough time for your premium to arrive by the due date on your bill. Do not mail cash. Write your case number on your check or money order and mail it with the stub from your premium notice to:

• In person
You may pay your premium at the MinnesotaCare office in downtown St. Paul. You may pay by cash, check or money order. If you pay by cash, you must have exact change.
County offices do not take MinnesotaCare premium payments.

You can find out if your premium payment has been received by calling the automated phone system at the numbers listed above.

What if I do not pay my premium?
If you do not pay your first premium, your coverage will not start.

If your coverage has started and you do not pay your premium, your coverage will end. If your coverage ends, you may not qualify for MinnesotaCare for four months unless you have “good cause” for making your payment late. Good cause is when something that was out of your control happened that made you unable to pay your bill on time. Contact your worker if you want to claim good cause.

Can I pay premiums in advance?
Yes.

Does everyone pay a premium for MinnesotaCare?
No, the following people do not pay a monthly premium.

• Children in households with income below a certain level

• Certain children leaving foster care or juvenile residential correctional facilities

• Households with an American Indian enrollee

• Some military families. Military families may be able to get coverage without a premium for up to 12 months if a family member completed a military tour of duty within two years of being approved for coverage. This benefit is available to members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserves.
