4.9.15 Child Support Cooperation for Families Experiencing Homelessness

ISSUE DATE: 10/2025

Child support cooperation at application

Families experiencing homelessness are exempt from child support cooperation requirements at application and during the three-month period that follows the date the application is received.

If there are minor children in the CCAP family with an absent parent and the family is not cooperating with child support at application, send the family the information and forms needed to cooperate. See Chapter 4.9 (Cooperation with Child Support).

Child support cooperation at end of three-month period

The family must be cooperating with child support for all minor children in the CCAP family with an absent parent by the end of the three-month period for eligibility to continue. See Chapter 4.9 (Cooperation with Child Support).

If the family is not cooperating with child support at the end of the three-month period, send the family the information and forms needed to cooperate. See Chapter 4.9 (Cooperation with Child Support).

If the family was not cooperating with child support at the end of the three month period, but began cooperating during the Temporary Ineligible period, eligibility goes back to the Temporary Ineligible begin date. See Chapter 8.6 (Temporary Ineligibility).

The worker must determine if the family is cooperating with child support before deleting the Case Action page. MEC2 does not check for child support cooperation at the end of the three-month period.

NOTE: If the family was an intact family at application and one parent moves out of the household during the three-month expedited homeless period, do not require child support cooperation at the end of the three-month period. The parent moving out of the household is a change during the 12-month eligibility period. The family will be required to cooperate with child support at Redetermination.

Child support cooperation during the 12-month eligibility period and redetermination

After the family met cooperation requirements at the end of the three-month period, families experiencing homelessness have the same child support cooperation requirements as other families during the 12-month eligibility period and at redetermination. See Chapter 4.9 (Cooperation with Child Support).
