Provider agency orientation

DHS recommends each EIDBI provider agency deliver an orientation to its providers that:

  • · Includes training on EIDBI – Rights and responsibilities.
  • · Includes EIDBI 101: Overview of the Benefit.
  • · Happens as soon as possible following employee start dates.
  • Individual provider trainings

All EIDBI providers must complete required training within six months of being hired. For information about requirements, as well as recommendations, refer to EIDBI – Individual EIDBI provider trainings.

    MHCP provider trainings

Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) offers additional training for EIDBI providers. For information about session topics and dates, refer to DHS – MHCP provider training.

    MCOs

For additional EIDBI provider training with managed care organizations (MCOs), contact the applicable MCO on DHS – MCO contacts for MHCP providers.

    Positive supports resources

EIDBI providers are required to follow the positive supports rule. DHS recommends all EIDBI providers use the following positive support and crisis resources:

  • · DHS – Positive supports provides background information, resources and contact information to support EIDBI providers in following the positive supports rule.
  • · Positive Supports Minnesota provides information about positive support approaches that do not include punishment or seclusion.
  • · Crisis Prevention Institute offers de-escalation training programs for all risk levels in EIDBI provider organizations.
  • Documentation

The EIDBI provider agency must document each provider’s training history, including start and completion dates of orientation and additional EIDBI trainings. The agency must store this information in the provider’s file.
