BRIDGING BENEFITS
ISSUE DATE: 01/2024
The Bridging Benefits program helps incarcerated people reenter the community with public assistance benefits in place,
reducing the likelihood they will return to prison or experience homelessness. Department of Corrections (DOC) staff identify incarcerated people who have the highest need for support, then help participants complete an application and send it to DHS Bridging Benefits staff prior to their release.
DHS Bridging Benefits staff conduct an interview and determine eligibility for programs prior to release, and assist in obtaining Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards so participants can access benefits immediately upon release.
Bridging Benefits staff will help determine eligibility for the following programs:
● | Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) |
● | Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) |
● | General Assistance (GA) |
● | Health Care |
● | Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA) |
● | Housing Support Program (HSP) |
● | Emergency Assistance |
