5.18 Participation Requirements

MFIP requires participants to take part in employment services.
Participating in employment services means: Developing an employment plan
· Signing the employment plan.· Doing the activities in the employment plan.
Failing to do any of these things without good cause can result in a sanction for the participant.
These requirements apply to all participants including:
· Those disqualified from receiving MFIP assistance for themselves because of fraud.· New spouses whose income is excluded.
Only the following circumstances allows for an exemption from these requirements: · A parent with a child under 12 months, who chooses to take the child under 12-month exemption and has not used their 12-month lifetime limit. See 5.21 (Child Under 12 Months Old Exemption).· A parent receiving Minnesota (MN) Paid Leave benefits, who chooses to take the MN Paid Leave exemption. See 5.23 (Minnesota Paid Leave Exemption).
