9.9 Options for 18- & 19-Year Old Parents

18- and 19-year old parents can choose either a work or an education option.

What are the employment plan activities?

  • · High school education or equivalent activities.
  • · Other activities including employment – if the education activities are at least half-time.
  • · No high school education or equivalent activities.
  • · Any of the other activities permitted in an employment plan.
  • Do months count for 60 month time limit? See 18.3 (The 60-Month Time Limit Policy).

    No – if the participant is attending school at least half-time.

    Yes.

    Does earned income count?

    No – if the participant is attending school at least half-time.

    Yes.

    What does the participant do to comply?

    Attend School.

    Do any activities that are part of the employment plan.

    What plan type should be used in Workforce One?

    18-19-year old, No HS diploma/GED. (Select School only or School and Work option in the plan).

    18-19-year old, No HS diploma/GED. (Select Work only option in the plan).


    The school determines satisfactory progress and adequate attendance.

    18- and 19-year-old parents can switch between the 2 options.

  • · They can notify either the eligibility worker or employment counselor.
  • · They can change options at any time.
  • · The option is not in effect until a new employment plan is developed and signed.
  • · Notify the eligibility worker when the new plan is signed.

  • If participants who want to change options are in sanction or have received notices about sanctions, they must do the following in order to change options:

    From education to work option.

    Attend the employment services overview.

    From work to education option.

    Either:

  • · Start attending school if school is in session.
  • · Register for school if it is summer and school is not in session.
