GROUPS OF HUMANITARIAN CONCERN

ISSUE DATE: 03/2026

United States immigration law creates pathways for people who are fleeing violence in their home countries to live in the United States. Some of these pathways are for people to stay in the United States permanently and some are only temporary. People who are permitted to be in the United States only temporarily may be able to apply for an immigration status that offers permanent protection in the United States.

People who have APPLIED for any of the following immigration statuses and who do NOT currently have any other immigration status or classification may be eligible for some public benefits. See 0031.03.01 (Asylum Applicants) and 0031.03.12 (Applicants for Lawful Permanent Residence Status).

Sponsor Deeming does not apply to these groups.
