Please see agenda for additional details.

Regional positive support capacity building meetings: Melanie attended West Central meeting. There was a presentation about the family resource center from Clay County. They are there to ensure families are supported and have necessary resources. They are a nonprofit and have a building that people can go to for social time. There are staff at the building that can assist in finding resources within the community depending on need, help with forms and assisting with access. During the presentation they mentioned third spaces as an essential need for the area. They have one in Hawley and are looking to expand toward Moorhead area.

Jessica attended the Twin Cities meeting where there was a presentation about positive supports and person-centered practice by a trainer from Mount Olivet.

The statewide meeting will take place at 1 p.m. Aug. 13.

Simplify and organize online DHS materials and training resources related to positive support services: There are hundreds of courses to take on positive supports from College of Direct Support. Feedback has indicated limiting options or providing a set of trainings that will cover the requirements of statute would be helpful for providers.

Intervention Services Redesign: We hope the public survey will be available this fall.

Direct care workforce shortage: No additional discussion.

    Subcommittee updates

    Requests for approval subcommittee

Revisiting decision to look at one-year maximum approval on the request committee and continue considering other options.

Emergency use of manual restraint subcommittee

When the provider takes the time to really get to know the individual the data typically reflects a reduction in interventions needed.

    Discussion

    Annual goals

The committee reviewed their 2025 goal:

  • · Create and maintain training materials as needs are discovered and as project opportunities emerge. Some projects may include: PSTP examples, reinforcement (token) programs, implementing 9544 for 245D providers, trainings for specific behaviors or disorders (PICA, fecal smearing, self-harm ingestion) and relating that to MN regulations
  • o This goal is meant to reflect the committee’s commitment to providers by giving them resources that align with the goal of reducing the use of prohibited procedures and increasing the use of positive supports. Spending time working with providers gives them a great perspective on topics that need further explanation.
  • o Hoping to solidify a date to review the PSTP examples. Toni will email potential dates.
  • Additional Notes
