Webinar announcement: Dr. Karyn Harvey presents No further harm: Trauma-informed supports
Date and time | This training is split into two sessions, both from 10 a.m. to noon. Attend both days:
|
Description | Join DHS and the Minnesota trauma-informed support trainers for a view of trauma from the perspective of people with intellectual disabilities. We will explore sources of trauma, the effects of trauma — at both a biological and psychological level — and important things needed for healing. Nearly two-thirds of people in the U.S. have reported one or more traumatic events in their lives. People with intellectual disabilities are at a much higher risk to have traumatic experiences. Whether or not a person can communicate past trauma, we should assume trauma has occurred and approach our support with that in mind. Curriculum for this training was developed by Karyn Harvey, Ph.D. LP, a trauma expert and psychologist with more than 30 years of experience. She is also the author of “Trauma-Informed Behavioral Interventions: What Works and What Doesn't.” |
