REFUGEES

ISSUE DATE: 05/2024

A refugee is a person who is outside their country of nationality because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.  Refugees live in a third country while they apply and wait for a decision on their Refugee status. Once they are granted Refugee status they travel to the United States and are granted indefinite permission to live and work in the United States.
