NON-IMMIGRANTS

ISSUE DATE: 07/2024

People legally present in the United States for a specific purpose and for a limited time are non-immigrants. They maintain residence in their home country and do not intend to stay in the United States permanently.  This can include:

  • Foreign government officials on business and their families.
  • Visitor for business or pleasure.
  • International travel crew members
  • Treaty traders and investors and their families.
  • Students.
  • International organization representatives and their families.
  • Temporary workers, including agricultural workers.
  • Members of foreign press or news media and their families.
  • Exchange visitors under the United States Department of State program.
  • Fiances and fiancees of United States citizens and their children.
  • Intra-company transferees and their families.
  • People with extraordinary ability in the sciences, art, education, business, or athletics and their families.
  • Participants in an athletic or artistic event.
  • Participants in an international cultural exchange program.
  • Religious leaders and staff who come to work in the United States for a religious organization.

Eligibility

No eligibility for cash or food, unless they are Citizens of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, or Palau; or U-Visa holders. See 0031.06.01 Citizens of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, or Palau.

Refer applicants for food assistance from local food shelves or WIC if applicable. See 0029.07.09 (Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program).
