Community and Public Foundations
Community and public foundations are created to benefit a specific community, population, area of interest or geographic area. They are governed by a board of private citizens who are involved in the community and who have a vested interest in the mission and the success of the foundation. The United Way is an example of a community/public foundation. Each local United Way chapter is independent. Each chapter sets its own funding priorities and determines its own financial awards.
