New resources on pathways to autism services and supports resources
DHS worked collaboratively with Wilder Research and the Minnesota departments of Education, Health and Employment and Economic Development to develop a set of resources to help increase awareness and access to the range of services and supports available to people with ASD across the lifespan.
· The First Steps: Pathway to learning, playing and growing, DHS-6751L (PDF) provides a summary of key developmental milestones that babies and toddlers should be achieving. It also has tips, tools and guidance to help your child’s development. In addition, it describes what resources are available to parents and caregivers who have questions or concerns about their child’s development. This document is intended to be shared during home visits and in clinics, childcare and pre-school settings.. · The Overview of Medical Identification and Educational Determination of ASD, DHS-6751M (PDF) provides information about the similarities and differences between the medical and educational pathways to services and supports for ASD. It is intended to be shared in clinics, schools and mental health facilities. · The Next Steps: Pathway to services and supports for a child recently identified with ASD, DHS-6751J (PDF) helps parents and caregivers understand options for their child in the year after diagnosis. It is intended to be shared by lead agencies and in clinics, schools and provider locations. · On the autism spectrum: Families find help and hope, DHS-6751E (PDF) lists videos that offer stories on how families in five different communities in Minnesota find person-centered support. · The Pathway to ASD services and supports, DHS-6751 (PDF) helps parents and caregivers navigate what options are available to their child in the years that follow. It is intended to be shared by lead agencies and in clinics, schools and provider locations. The pathway document also is available in Hmong (PDF), Oromo (PDF), Somali (PDF), Russian (PDF), Vietnamese (PDF), Karen (PDF) and Spanish (PDF).· The Next Stage: Pathway to Transition and Long-Term Services and Supports for ASD, DHS-6751K, (PDF) outlines resources available to young adults and adults as they transition into independent living and the work world. It is intended to be shared by lead agencies and in schools and provider locations.Additional information
