Trauma informed care training for EIDBI providers set for July 13

DHS will host a 90-minute free online training for Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention (EIDBI) services providers July 13. In this presentation, we will explore the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). You will learn more about acute and complex trauma and how to provide improved health outcomes to children, youth and young adults who participate in EIDBI services.

Over the past year, the world has been through a collective trauma. The coronavirus pandemic has affected the mental health and well-being of many people. In addition to health concerns, families have experienced job loss, food insecurity, and loss of loved ones, relationship strain and more. For children, youth and young adults with autism spectrum disorder and related conditions, the pandemic caused significant disruption to service delivery and educational supports. Many children and families have also been affected by racial and civil unrest. Prolonged stress and trauma have significant impacts on health, emotional well-being, and development.

Learning objectives

  • · How to evaluate the impact of past experiences on current development
  • · Skills to engage with children and families effectively through a trauma-informed care lens
