Update about related conditions diagnosis code F78.0

In an Oct. 12, 2021, eList announcement, DHS asked counties and tribal nations to hold off on submitting screening documents using the ICD-10 code F78 until we identify a solution for the MMIS issues.

We have developed a solution, and we are making changes in MMIS to address the issues. We will test these system changes this week. Once testing has concluded, we will send an eList announcement with guidance about next steps for counties and tribal nations.

Providers with the ICD-10 code F78 on their current service agreement letter can now bill for services delivered after Oct. 1, 2021, using the ICD-10 code F78.A9. For additional assistance, providers can contact the Provider Call Center: 651-431-2700, option #4.

Thank you for your patience and continued partnership.

Background

On Oct. 1, 2021, the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) updated the ICD-10-CM codebook and deleted the F78.0 code for intellectual disabilities. As a result, F78.0 no longer can be used for reimbursement purposes for screening documents and service authorizations for people who access DD services. DHS has updated MMIS to prevent this code from being used in all circumstances after Oct. 1, 2021.
