Recent CBSM updates
In April 2022, DHS made updates to the following pages in the CBSM:

Waiver/AC programs overview | We updated CBSM – Waiver and Alternative Care (AC) overview to clarify that Older Americans Act funding is not considered “another funding source” for the purposes of this page. |
AC | We updated CBSM – Alternative Care (AC) to clarify that Older Americans Act funding is not considered “another funding source” for the purposes of this page. |
EW | We updated CBSM – Elderly Waiver (EW) to clarify that Older Americans Act funding is not considered “another funding source” for the purposes of this page. |

ICS settings | We updated the list of integrated community supports (ICS) settings on CBSM – Resource: ICS settings. |
Customized living provider settings only allowed to serve people on the BI and CADI waivers who are age 55 and older | We updated the list of providers on CBSM – Resource: Customized living provider settings only allowed to serve people on the BI and CADI waivers who are age 55 and older to reflect provider enrollment status as of April 1, 2022. |

Lead agency employment liaisons | We posted a new resource, CBSM – Resource: Lead agency employment liaisons, to describe the responsibilities of employment liaisons. DHS asks each lead agency to appoint at least one staff person to serve as their employment liaison. Employment liaisons serve as the main point of contact to help build a coordinated system for people on waivers to meet their employment goals. |
Employment | We updated CBSM – Employment to add a new section about employment liaisons with a link to the new page, CBSM – Resource: Lead agency employment liaisons. |
Guide for emergency back-up planning | We posted a new resource, CBSM – Resource: Guide for emergency backup planning, to provide best practices, guidance and resources for case managers and care coordinators to help people develop and document back-up plans for staffing emergencies. Back-up planning before an emergency occurs will help each person make an informed choice based on their individualized goals and preferences. For more information, see the May 3, 2022, eList announcement. |
Training
AASD
AASD and the Minnesota Board on Aging offer several online courses for lead agency staff and for those looking to learn more about how to better serve and support older adults more broadly. All courses are available on the Older Adult Programs Learning Center, located on TrainLink under “Older Adult Programs.”

DSD
Lead agency staff can take the On-Demand HCBS Disability Waiver Foundations course to learn the basics about the four disability waivers, including eligibility and covered services.
The Supporting A Person’s Move: A Case Manager’s Role course guides case managers through their responsibilities in supporting a person to find a new home. This course also discusses different moving supports, services and tools to help people plan for successful moves, including information about Housing Stabilization Services (HSS). To find the course, go to TrainLink and search for course code “Housing_CM”.
