Updates to share
Member changes
· Stacy Danov is no longer a committee member.· Stacie Enders has accepted a new job leading DHS projects for the direct care workforce shortage. However, she will remain as a backup for the new committee coordinator, once that person is hired. Regional positive support capacity building meetings
Once DHS hires the new person to replace Stacie Enders, the committee will work with that person to develop a plan for coordinating with the organization hosting these other meetings.
Subcommittee updates
A member commented it would be good to have multiple positive support transition plan examples because there is more than one “right” way to write a plan.
Discussion
Annual goals
The committee will review its 2024 goals, which are listed in no particular order:
· Provide resources and guidance for improving communication skills. The committee agreed that it makes sense to separate the instructions from the template because people receiving supports will likely not want to review all the instructions and have those copied into their support plan. It will create unnecessary clutter and might be difficult for people to read since it is several pages long. · Simplify and organize online DHS materials and training resources related to positive supports or intervention services. The person replacing Stacie Enders will be assigned to this project. Some of the manual is ready for publishing so DHS might be able to get the first pieces to the communications team prior to hiring the new person. · Explore ways to improve access to positive support services. This project is on track and on schedule. Over 500 people have responded to the study so far, and the University is still reaching out to folks. DHS staff leading the project are meeting with their legislative team on Monday to work on a timeline for getting all the recommendations through all the approving bodies, meaning: · DHS leadership· Minnesota Legislature· The federal Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS).· Support efforts to improve the direct care workforce shortage.Stacie Enders will be working with the public workforce shortage workgroup to formalize their roles and operating procedures. Stacie will also be working on a comprehensive plan to address the shortage, to help communicate to the public actions being taken in MN to address the shortage. Additional workforce shortage projects will also be taken up as the plan is developed. Stacie will keep the committee informed as steps are taken over the next year.
