United States immigration law creates pathways for people who are fleeing violence in their home countries to live in the United States. Some of these pathways are for people to stay in the United States permanently and some are only temporary. People who are permitted to be in the United States only temporarily may be able to apply for an immigration status that offers permanent protection in the United States.

People who currently HAVE the following immigration statuses or classifications are eligible for federal and state benefits and services to the same extent as refugees. Click on the immigration status or classification below to learn more.

People who have APPLIED for any of the following immigration statuses and who do NOT currently have any other immigration status or classification may be eligible for some public benefits but they are typically NOT eligible to the same extent as refugees, see 0031.03.01 (Asylum Applicants), and see 0031.03.12 (Applicants for Lawful Permanent Residence Status).

Groups of Humanitarian Concern may also be eligible for the following programs:

	Refugee Cash Assistance for eligible adults and married people without children during their first 12 months of arrival or since an eligible status was granted. See 0030.03 (Refugee Cash Assistance).
