Purpose: To announce an updated timeline for Waiver Reimagine implementation

Waiver Reimagine timeline update

DHS will delay Waiver Reimagine implementation until Jan. 1, 2027, to align with the November 2024 state of Minnesota budget forecast. This is a one-year delay.

Before DHS can implement Waiver Reimagine:

1. DHS must report to the Minnesota Legislature about Waiver Reimagine plans.

2. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) must approve the waiver plan amendments required to implement Waiver Reimagine.

DHS actions

DHS will:

  • · Work with the community to create measurable implementation benchmarks.
  • · Share the implementation benchmarks with the legislature and the public.
  • · Apply a variety of engagement strategies, including continued work with the Waiver Reimagine Advisory Committee, to identify these implementation benchmarks.
  • · Send eList announcements to further communicate about this topic.
  • Background information

    The purpose of Waiver Reimagine is to improve Minnesota’s disability waiver system. The improvements will:

  • · Make the system more equitable, more person-centered and easier to understand.
  • · Simplify navigation.
  • · Create more opportunities for self-direction.
  • · Support and expand informed choice.
