Definition | Personal needs allowance: Amount of funds an individual may keep from Medical Assistance to use for personal needs. | ||
Use of funds | Funds are available each month to individuals who reside in an intermediate care facility for persons with developmental disabilities (ICF/DD) for clothing and personal needs of their choice. The personal needs allowance is $95 per month. ICF/DD providers are responsible to: Case managers are responsible to oversee the use of funds. | ||
Inappropriate use of funds | This money is not available to supplement ICF/DDs for items provided as part of the daily ICF/DD per diem, durable medical equipment or any other MA service. For example, basic supply items such as toothpaste and shampoo should be provided. If an individual wishes to purchase a different brand, they pay for it out of their personal needs allowance. | ||
