Definition | Temporary service suspension: Suspension of services by an ICF/DD to a person residing in the ICF/DD.
Compliance principles | ICFs/DD are required to notify the person, their legal representative and case manager of a temporary suspension of services in writing. Note: When a temporary suspension of services is to result in a termination of services, a 60-day notice begins with the decision to terminate services and not the date of the temporary suspension of services. For more information, refer to ICF/DD Manual – Termination of services.
Service suspension | 1. Restrict temporary service suspension to situations in which a person’s behavior causes immediate and serious danger to the health and safety of the person or others. 2. Document actions taken to minimize or eliminate the need to suspend services. 3. Work with the county agency to develop reasonable alternatives to protect the person and others during the temporary suspension of services.
Policies and procedures | ICF/DD policies and procedures must include provisions for service suspension, coordination of care and appeal rights.
