DHS launches free customized support for HCBS providers
Throughout the HCBS settings transition process, DHS and providers have worked together to ensure older adults and people with disabilities have access to the highest-quality home and community-based services. Providers play an important role in making sure people make their own choices and pursue their desired opportunities, contribute to their communities and are treated with dignity and respect.
DHS has contracted with STAR Services to provide customized support to providers. The customized support will be provided at no cost to the selected organizations and will focus on HCBS settings topic areas identified in the organization’s application.
This customized support may include, but is not limited to, the following topic areas:
STAR Services will partner with selected organizations to provide in-person, one-to-one customized support. STAR Services will coach direct care workers, managers and others in leadership positions at selected providers in how to evaluate existing practices, identify barriers and find potential solutions.

The HCBS provider toolkit is another tool available to providers. It contains frequently asked questions, guidance and examples of provider practices that support choice and autonomy for people who receive HCBS. We encourage providers to use this toolkit to help generate ideas on how we can all better serve older adults and people with disabilities.
