New training module available for employees of positive support services

DirectCourse, in partnership with DHS, has made the DHS-MN-Positive Support Specialist Training Module available on its online training platform. The course was developed as a new training tool for positive support specialists and analysts. It is available in response to feedback about the lack of training options for people in these roles.

Course details

  • Some details about the new course:
  • · Audience: DirectCourse developed this course to train positive support specialists, but positive support analysts also will benefit
  • · Format: Online, self-paced
  • · Cost: Free or low cost, depending on the learner’s organization’s size and role. For more information on price structure, go to the “free and low-cost options” tab on the DirectCourse page
  • · Register: Complete the DirectCourse request form. A learning administrator will contact you with your new learner account or organizational information within a few days
  • · Mentors: Attendees are encouraged to find a mentor to help them through the training process. A mentor can provide advice and answer questions as learners put their training into action.
  • A note about credit hours

As detailed in the requirements sections for specialists/analysts on the CBSM – Positive support specialist page, positive support specialists are required to meet a minimum number of specialist training credits. Taking this course will account for 21.5 hours of 42 hours of training credits. However, in addition to this course, you still will need:

    · 11.5 more hours in understanding the function of behavior

    · 5.5 more hours on preparing written intervention strategies, designing data collection protocols, training other staff to implement positive practice strategies and summarizing/reporting program evaluation data

    · 5 more hours on person-centered thinking principles.

    Coordination with other training courses

The DirectCourse system recognizes when a student already has taken some of the courses. Student will not need to take previously completed courses a second time.
