Background

To participate as a Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) provider, providers must meet professional certification and/or licensure requirements according to state and federal laws and regulations.

Provider requirements

Before providers can bill and be reimbursed for providing Medical Assistance (MA) services, they must:

  • · Enroll as a MHCP provider
  • · Have an active MHCP enrollment span
  • · Be assigned the required category of service (COS)
  • Category of service (COS)

DHS assigns each MHCP provider one or more categories of service. The COS identifies which types of services the provider can deliver. DHS maintains a list of the providers and their COS in the MMIS provider subsystem.

Refer to the Provider Requirements (Chapter 1) of the MHCP Provider Manual for information on the provider enrollment process.

    Waiver services

DHS pays only for waiver services billed by MHCP providers. Find specific requirements for waiver services at HCBS Waiver/AC Provider Enrollment and Standards and MHCP HCBS Waiver and Alternative Care Provider Enrollment.
