PREGNANT WOMAN BASIS - MFIP

ISSUE DATE: 03/2026

MFIP:
A pregnant woman who has no other eligible birth, adoptive, or step-children living with her may be eligible for MFIP under the pregnant woman basis of eligibility. Pregnant women under age 18 who are emancipated or living in an approved adult supervised supportive living arrangement may be eligible for MFIP as a caregiver if all other eligibility criteria are met. See 0012.06 (Requirements for Caregivers Under 20).

If the pregnant woman and the acknowledged father live together but are not married, count only the woman's income and assets to determine eligibility and benefits.

If the pregnant woman and the father live together and are married, count the income and assets of both the mother and father to determine eligibility and benefits. The father is also a mandatory unit member. See 0014.03.03 (Determining the Cash Assistance Unit).
Eligibility starts the 1st day of the month in which the pregnancy begins, or on the date of application, whichever is later.

Eligibility under this basis continues only for the duration of the pregnancy. After childbirth, determine if the unit (including the newborn) is still eligible along with other mandatory members of the unit. See 0008.06.12.09 (Converting a Pregnant Woman Case).
