Overview

Mental Health Minnesota is the publicly funded mental health system administered by lead agencies (counties, tribal nations and managed care organizations) and supervised by DHS. In this system, lead agencies act as the local mental health authority.

Lead agencies are responsible to provide publicly funded mental health services with federal, state and county/tribal funding. In many parts of the state, lead agencies contract with providers to deliver mental health services. Mental health providers must meet eligibility criteria as described in MHCP Provider Manual – General MHCP non-enrollable mental health provider requirements.

DHS works to ensure quality mental health programs and services are available throughout Minnesota. People may need support in a variety of areas, including but not limited to:

  • · Employment
  • · Housing
  • · Social connections
  • · Family relations
  • · Other co-occurring conditions.
