The federal authority that allows temporary remote service delivery (Appendix K) is now effective until six months after the end of the federal public health emergency. Additionally, people can now receive the following services through temporary remote support:
Lead agencies and providers should continue to follow the guidance for delivery of temporary remote support as outlined in Bulletin #20-56-02 Amended: Temporary expansion of remote support for home and community-based services (HCBS) waivers (PDF).
Background
On Dec. 20, 2020, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released guidance that allows Appendix Ks to be extended for 6 months after the federal public health emergency. On Jan. 7, 2021, DHS received approval from CMS to extend the effective date and add prevocational services and Waiver Reimagine streamlined services in the Appendix K for temporary delivery of remote support (PDF) as an alternative to in-person service delivery.
