Task Force on Eliminating Subminimum Wages chair nominating and selection process

According to the Minnesota session law that created the task force, the task force is required to select a task force chair at the first meeting (Minnesota Session Law 2021, chapter 17, article 17, section 14, subdivision 4). This document describes the chair’s roles and the nominating process.

Role of task force chair

  • · Serve on the task force planning team by assisting in planning task force topics and flow, representing member concerns and ensuring that member input is conveyed.
  • · Lead formal processes of the task force meetings, such as the calling to vote and assisting with conducting other aspects of task force meetings, as needed.
  • · Help ensure that task force member suggestions and comments are interpreted clearly and summarized accurately by the facilitators.
  • · Serve as the spokesperson for the task force when there is a request to speak on behalf of the task force.
  • · Review and give initial input to key documents before presenting to task force, as needed.
  • · Other duties, as requested.
  • In addition to regular task force member responsibilities, the task force chair’s time commitment will be about one to two hours per week.

    Nominating and selection process

  • · The task force meeting facilitator will invite task force members to openly “nominate” a member for the chair role. Task members may nominate themselves.
  • · The nominators will (verbally) be asked to share several sentences on why they or their nominee is a good choice for the chair role.
  • · As applicable, the task force meeting facilitator will ask each nominee to confirm whether they accept the nomination.
  • · The list of task force chair nominees will be assembled, and the task force will move to a roll call voting process. With the roll call vote, the task force meeting facilitator will read each member’s name and that member may either state their choice for task force chair or abstain.
  • · The nominee with the most votes will become the chair.
