Purpose: To announce a change in the policy for remote support in bedrooms
Effective: Immediately

Remote support policy update

Effective immediately, DHS updated the remote support policy to allow a person to receive services remotely while in their bedroom. DHS approval is no longer required for use of cameras in bedrooms when the cameras are used solely to provide remote support. For more information, see CBSM – Remote support.

When cameras are used in bedrooms for all other purposes, lead agencies must continue to follow monitoring technology usage instructions on CBSM – Monitoring technology usage.

Background

The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved DHS’ request to make this change. This change applies to allowable services through the following programs:

  • · Alternative Care (AC)
  • · Brain Injury (BI) Waiver
  • · Community Access for Disability Inclusion (CADI) Waiver
  • · Community Alternative Care (CAC) Waiver
  • · Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver
  • · Elderly Waiver (EW)
  • · Essential Community Supports (ECS).
