    Updates to share

    Direct care workforce shortage

See the meeting agenda for more information.

For the retention bonuses, the number of hours an employee has worked (full time vs. part time) is not factored in, but they must have worked specifically in direct care positions during the span of the past two years. The income guidelines are based on after-tax household income.

    Discussion

    Review of annual recommendations

  • · 2023 Goal 1: Provide resources and guidance for improving communication skills: DHS has started conversations on this topic with lead agencies and the RRS team.
  • · 2023 Goal 2: Simplify and organize online DHS materials and training resources related to positive supports or intervention services: The DHS Community Capacity and Positive Supports team will create an outline of topics to cover in July or August. The basic framework of the new manual can be built this year, and then over time the committee and DHS can add information one piece at a time, rather than waiting for everything to be completely finished before sharing any information.
  • · 2023 Goal 3: Explore ways to improve access to positive support services: DHS is waiting to see what legislature does before acting.
  • · 2023 Goal 4: Support efforts to improve the direct care workforce shortage: DHS is waiting to see what legislature does before acting. Both state and federal representatives have been talking about requiring certain percentages of service rates to go towards staff wages and benefits.
