    Discussion

    Review of annual recommendations

2023 Goal 1: Provide resources and guidance for improving communication skills

  • · Staff completed a review of existing public materials related to improving communication. While there are many materials related to teaching staff how to improve their communication, there do not appear to be any materials on how to teach people who receive services how to improve their communication skills. However, there is one remaining training module that needs to be reviewed. The module consists of seven hours of training videos so DHS staff will need more time to review those videos.
  • · A draft page for the new Positive Supports Manual was completed with tips and resources for improving communication. The committee will have a chance to review that page at the February or March meeting.
  • · If the videos do not cover how to teach people who receive services how to improve their communication skills, then DHS staff will start working on a training resource for that topic.
  • 2023 Goal 2: Simplify and organize online DHS materials and training resources related to positive supports or intervention services

The new Psychotropic Medication Manual is still not complete but will be soon. Staff will focus their time on finishing that manual before continuing with the new Positive Supports Manual.

2023 Goal 3: Explore ways to improve access to positive support services

DHS is currently in contract negotiations with a potential vendor to gather public feedback on this topic.

    Closing
