Workplace rights and minimum wage requirements

DHS encourages people to review information about workplace rights and minimum wage requirements from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI). Direct care professionals can use the information below to:

  • · Advocate for themselves and the people they support.
  • · Help the people they support learn about their rights.
  • Workplace Rights Week

    DLI will host Workplace Rights Week, Sept. 22-28, 2024. This is an opportunity to learn about rights and responsibilities in the workplace. For more information, refer to DLI – Workplace Rights Week.

    New minimum-wage rates

    Effective Jan. 1, 2025, Minnesota law requires the state’s minimum-wage rate to increase to $11.13 per hour for all employers in the state. The law still allows for a 90-day training wage for workers under age 20.

    Note: The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul require higher minimum-wage rates for work performed in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

    Minnesota law requires employers to display state-mandated posters in a location where employees can easily access them. For more information, refer to DLI – Workplace notices and posters.
