Employment and informed choice training requirements for disability waiver case managers

In February 2024, DHS plans to offer two required trainings about employment and informed choice for disability waiver case managers and support planners. These virtual trainings will cover information, skills and resources needed to support people with disabilities to:

  • · Work in competitive integrated employment.
  • · Engage in informed decision making in all aspects of their lives.
  • How to access the trainings

DHS will send an eList with instructions to access the employment and informed choice trainings when they are available.

    Training and monitoring requirements

As of July 1, 2023, disability waiver case managers must complete 20 hours of education and disability-related training each year. DHS announced these training requirements in the July 5, 2023, eList announcement.

For a list of trainings that meet the requirements, refer to DHS – Training opportunities for case managers and care coordinators.

Lead agencies must continue to monitor and record disability waiver case manager training completion. For more information, refer to CBSM – Waiver, AC and ECS case management.
