Purpose: To announce an increase to the annual service limit for specialized equipment and supplies for people on the Brain Injury (BI), Community Alternative Care (CAC) and Community Access for Disability Inclusion (CADI) waivers

Increased limit to specialized equipment and supplies
DHS increased the annual dollar limit for specialized equipment and supplies from $3,909 to $10,000 per waiver year. This change applies to BI, CAC and CADI waiver service agreements that begin or renew on or after Jan. 1, 2024.
We made this change due to 2023 legislative changes and recently approved waiver amendments.
Implementation instructions
Lead agencies may implement this change when they complete a BI, CAC or CADI assessment or reassessment with an effective date on or after Jan. 1, 2024.
A lead agency must authorize specialized equipment and supplies within the applicable limits:
MMIS will post exception code 284 (i.e., service over cap) if the lead agency:
To resolve the exception code, lead agencies must revise the affected authorization.
