Webinar about foster care policy requirements when placing children with complex needs

DHS encourages waiver case managers who serve children to attend the webinar, “Placing Children with Complex Needs: Placement Authority, Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) and Foster Care Requirements.”

The Child Safety and Permanency Administration from DCYF will host two identical webinar sessions on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, and Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024.

More information

The webinar is a result of DCYF’s work with county and tribal agencies about children with complex needs and the need to clarify placement authority and foster care policy requirements. The webinar will address:

· Bulletin #24-68-05: Clarifying when disability waiver community residential services are foster care placements for children and youth (PDF).

· Types of placement settings (e.g., crisis respite in hotel settings, crisis respite or residential services in child foster residence settings [corporate child foster care/group homes], shelter care in licensed residential facilities, children’s residential facilities, Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTFs), in-patient treatment in a hospital).

· Placement authority definition, types and requirements.

· Foster care placement policy requirements.

· AFCARS and placement data entry in the Social Service Information System (SSIS).
