Engagement sessions about serving children with complex needs

DHS and DCYF are hosting regional engagement sessions regarding serving children with complex needs. Case managers or workers should consider attending if they are willing to provide feedback on their experiences serving children with complex needs, including successes and consistent challenges.

Target audience

These engagement sessions are for county, tribal and contracted case managers or workers who serve children with complex needs, including:

  • · Child protection and child welfare case management.
  • · Children’s mental health case management.
  • · Disability waiver services case management.
  • · Child foster care licensors.
  • Purpose

During these engagement sessions, DHS and DCYF will gather information for possible policy and practice changes to gain traction on serving children with complex needs. Information gathered will inform policy development and recommendations for system improvements.

In each session, DHS and DCYF will:

  • · Share information gathered about emerging themes, issues and best practices when serving children with complex needs.
  • · Engage with case managers and workers about their experiences serving children with complex needs using virtual, interactive tools.
  • · Engage with case managers and workers about continuing these regional engagement sessions, including session themes and frequency.
  • Session information

DHS and DCYF will host an engagement session for each Minnesota Association of County Social Service Administrators (MACSSA) / regional resource specialist (RRS) region.

If case managers or workers are unable to attend their region’s engagement session, they can register for an adjoining region’s session.

Tribal nation case managers or workers can attend a session for one of the established regions or email csp.complexcare.dcyf@state.mn.us so DHS and DCYF can set up a separate engagement session with the individual tribal nation.
