Purpose: To share information about a program for college students to receive an incentive bonus for providing personal care assistance (PCA) services and to recruit people eligible for PCA/Community First Services and Supports (CFSS) to apply to receive care through the program

Incentive bonuses available through the PCA College Service Corps program

The PCA College Service Corps program matches college students who need jobs with people who need support. The program gives college students opportunities to:

  • · Strengthen their professional credentials.
  • · Develop personal bonds with people in the disability community.
  • · Receive a taxable incentive bonus award of $1,500 to $4,500 in addition to their regular PCA/CFSS income.
  • · Help address the need for more direct care providers.
  • Program requirements and application instructions

    To be eligible to provide services through the program, students must:

  • · Be age 18 or older.
  • · Currently be enrolled at a post-secondary educational institution in Minnesota.
  • · Commit to providing 10, 20 or 30 weeks of care.
  • · Spend an average of 10 hours per week working as a personal care assistant.
    Note: Working hours are flexible and vary by person.
  • · Not be a current PCA/CFSS provider.
  • · Provide a resume and letter of recommendation.
  • · Pass a background check.
  • · Complete the Metropolitan Center for Independent Living (MCIL) PCA College Service Corps Student Application.
  • When a student meets program requirements and matches with a person who receives services:

  • · The person’s PCA/CFSS services provider will hire the student.
  • · The student will receive training, guidance and mentorship opportunities.
  • To receive care through the program, people who receive services must:

  • · Be assessed to receive 10 or more hours of PCA/CFSS assistance per day.
  • · Direct their own care.
  • · Participate in Minnesota PCA/CFSS programs.
  • · Complete the MCIL PCA College Service Corps Participant Application.
  • Note: Space and funding are limited. Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
