Updates to EIDBI service coordination with homeschooled students, including online school

Effective Jan. 1, 2026, EIDBI providers must not deliver or bill for the following direct intervention services during homeschool or online/virtual school instruction:

  • · 1:1 (i.e., billing code 97153).
  • · Group (i.e., billing code 97154).
  • · High-intensity intervention with the person (i.e., billing code 0373T).
  • Reason for change

    We made this change to:

  • · Ensure EIDBI services do not replace or interfere with the student’s educational program.
  • · Maintain clear boundaries between EIDBI services and educational services.
  • Covered services

Providers may continue to deliver clinically necessary family/caregiver training (i.e., billing code 97156) during homeschool or virtual school instruction if the parent or caregiver is present and participates.

    More information

DHS updated EIDBI Policy Manual – EIDBI services to clarify expectations for EIDBI service coordination with educational or academic supports, including:

  • · Collaboration with Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams.
  • · Instructional time schedule coordination.
